My name is Allie Carey. I have lived in Knoxville since I was born, even in the same house! I went to Bearden Elementary, Webb Middle School, and West High School, where I graduated in 2009. I am currently a senior at the University of Tennessee majoring in Psychology and minoring in Elementary Education.
I was accepted into the Teacher Licensure Program in December of 2011 (what a great Christmas present!). I will intern next year in an urban/multicultural school. I want to teach elementary school because I want to help set up a strong foundation of learning for my students. These early years of school strongly affect a student's attitude and mindset about learning, and that attitude will carry on throughout their entire academic career. I hope to foster excitement and passion for learning in my students by making school fun and genuinely interesting.
Other than school I do a lot of babysitting for a family who goes to my church. They have four young children who keep me very busy. In my free time I love to be outside with my friends, boyfriend, and family. I like to talk, read, attempt at cooking, go on walks, hike, and eat. I like to watch the Food Network, HGTV, the local news, and sometimes Bravo.

At first I was hesitant about this course. I am a techno-fool and am slightly hesitant when it comes to things like blogs and websites. I want to keep my classroom personal and engaging. Originally I assumed that bringing in lots of technology would take away some of that personal atmosphere, but in the few classes we've had I have realized that resources like blogs, wikis, etc. allow for more communication and sharing, not less. I am excited to learn about more creative ways to make my class a community that shares.
